Introduction
Under the guidance of His Holiness Dr. Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS, the ‘Amatullah Aaisaheba Memorial Trust – Pakistan’ is launching an architectural design competition for Mohammedi Park, a modern, mixed-density gated housing scheme built from the ground up for the Dawoodi Bohra community. The 86.5-acre site is located in Malir, on Karachi’s rapidly developing eastern frontier.
This is not a profit-driven endeavor. The driving force behind this project is a response to His Holiness’s personal efforts and call for the upliftment of his followers and humankind at large. We define upliftment as an improvement which is not only financial, but spiritual, social, and physical. Thus, we believe upliftment can benefit the affluent, as well as those of modest means.
We believe that cultural growth can be achieved by providing a cohesive interrelated housing system in which facilities for all aspects of life are provided within the reach of its dwellers. We believe that neighborhoods can, and should, facilitate a community’s adherence to their culture and traditions by the means of efficient master planning and specific architecture.
The goal is to create a premium micro-community which caters to the unique needs and lifestyle of Dawoodi Bohras of Karachi regardless of income level. The ambition is to create an archetypical model to be followed not only by the Dawoodi Bohra community but by other communities – in Karachi and throughout the world.
“With great energy and vigor dedicate yourselves to activities that contribute to your cities and benefit their inhabitants. Become exemplary citizens through your wholehearted participation in projects and enterprises that contribute to the progress of the country that you reside in. This is my counsel to Mumineen (followers) the world over.”
— Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA, 52nd Dai ul Mutlaq, father and predecessor of present Dai ul-Mutlaq Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS
